Interlock® Aluminum Roofing — all-climates performance specs for Delhi, Ontario
| Spec / Rating | Climate / Risk Factor + What It Solves |
|---|---|
| Wind resistance: 120+ mph (193+ kph) | Extreme wind, hurricanes, storm uplift: full interlocking attachment helps prevent blow-offs, edge lifting, and panel loss in high-gust events. |
| Fire rating: Class A (with proper assembly) | Wildfire, embers, radiant heat, chimney sparks: non-combustible roof assembly provides the highest residential fire protection rating. |
| Hail resistance: UL 2218 Class 4 | Hail and impact debris: highest impact classification; resists cracking, splitting, and surface loss common with asphalt under hail strikes. |
| Snow & ice performance: interlocking, shedding profile | Heavy snow, freeze-thaw, ice dams: smooth aluminum sheds snow efficiently and the interlocking design helps block water intrusion when melt-refreeze cycles occur. (Final snow-load capacity depends on roof structure and local code.) |
| Corrosion resistance: aluminum (won’t rust) | Salt air, coastal humidity, wet climates: aluminum naturally resists rust and corrosion, reducing long-term failure risk in marine or high-moisture environments. |
| Heat / UV durability: baked-on coating system | High heat, intense sun, thermal cycling: coatings resist UV breakdown and temperature-swing fatigue, slowing fading and surface degradation. |
| Moss / algae resistance: smooth coated surface | Wet shade, organic growth: low-porosity metal surface gives moss/algae less to grip, reducing staining and maintenance. |
| Material: heavy-gauge aluminum roof profiles (Slate / Shake / Shingle / Tile / Standing Seam) | All-season structural stability: lightweight, dent-resistant metal system stays stable through large hot-cold swings and severe weather. |
| Expected lifespan: 50+ years | Long-term durability across climates: avoids re-roof cycles typical of shorter-life materials, even in high-stress environments. |
| Warranty: Lifetime-Limited, non-prorated + 50-year transferable | Lifetime protection + resale value: guarantees long-term material confidence and transfers to future owners. |

What our customers are saying:
Love my new roof, so do the neighbors. Great product and fast and friendly service. Best of all is knowing this is the last roof I will need. Positive: Responsiveness, Punctuality, Quality, Professionalism, Value Services: Roof installation
We are the talk of our neighbourhood. Our house now has the best-looking roof on our street, and we are proud of it. Chris and Paul, who worked on the roof, were extremely efficient, knowledgeable, and professional. What a great representation of your company standards. They kept us informed of their progress, worked endlessly and constantly cleaned up after themselves. Job well done!!! Many of our neighbours came out to watch and were impressed with the workmanship and style of the Interlock roof. Hopefully, other homeowners will realize the benefits of having this type of roofing system. Our biggest concern was the noise level when it was raining. Our concern was put to ease the other night because we had a rainstorm, and we could barely hear the raindrops on the roof. We can now sleep peacefully knowing we have a strong, quiet, maintenance-free roof. Thank you, Interlock! Wayne and Sandi Stirling Hamilton, Ontario
LOOKS – LOOKS – LOOKS GREAT!!! We just wanted to say the roof really looks great. The reason we are writing this letter is to let you know how pleased we were with your workmen. They did a fantastic job on the roof as well as cleaning up after themselves each day. Please extend our thanks to them for a really professional job well done.
The agreed upon timeline was way off . Was almost wondering if it was going to be done . Was told 6-8 weeks at contract signing . Turned out to be 12 weeks later . Would have appreciated a call explaining delay but in the end the job got done and it looks wonderful The roof looks great ! We had lots of rain shortly thereafter installation where I was able to inspect my attic for potential leaks. I was delighted to see NO LEAKS whatsoever ! Very happy with the roof. It's an investment I'm sure will survive the test of time. Our climate is getting hotter and it seems shingles just don't cut it anymore
We were impressed by Bill's knowledge and willingness to engage in conversation about the installation. The Interlock roofing system recommends itself. We followed the advice of a trusted friend in consulting with your company representatives. We are happy with the new roof and were confident throughout its installation that the people working with/for Interlock we professional and trustworthy.
They were very professional. I took samples which I like to have. I love my roof it looks great. I get compliments on it.
We are very happy with the roof. We've gotten a lot of good feedback. We are extremely happy and would recommend Interlock to anyone.
There were crew stability issues. First crew walked off the job twice, the second time permanently. Others came in fairly promptly to finish the job. The job took more than a month. Rain was partially the problem. Excellent workmanship. I would recommend you guys. One beef. The nature of my old house is that to paint dormers on second and third floor requires standing on and putting a ladder down on the lower roof level. When I asked Bob (sales) about walking on the roof he said "no problem" so I did not give it any further thought. When the roofers arrived they explained that I would not be able to stand a ladder on the aluminum shingle - meaning I could not access the upper dormers to paint them. Evidently I will need a "cherry picker" to get the job done now. It may have influenced my decision about the roof. Regardless, if I had known this I could have contracted a painter to do the (much needed) job while the old asphalt shingle was still in place.
The installation crew was a complete joke Everyone has a tart somewhere Our home was the first job for the 4 of these guys to work as a team The team leader chris (not impressed ) He says to me your evestroughs are full I will clean them I said thanks so much Over two weeks I had two roofing nail flat tires and a visitor to our home had a nail also When the crew pulled there trailer out I blew the driveway clear and picked up all nails and scrap Two days later (after a rain ) I had a flat and found more nails on my driveway AWeek later (after a rain ) another flat I got up on my ladder And to my amaze Old asphalt shingles prices of membrane pieces of aluminum old roofing nails and new aluminum nails and last years fall leaves I never asked him to clean the eaves Knowing that he had not I would have gone up and cleaned them all when they left I took pictures The membrane that they put down first some overhangs past the troughs and some of it has been cut to hang down around the screws that hold up the eveaves They never worked an 8 hour day One roofer told us we needed new 3 new skylights before they could start the membrane I went and bought 3 new ones right away on the phone advice of an interlock manager who said just pay the installers some cash When I returned from Home Depot I figured I would pay as much as $500 cash I asked Chris how much He thought for a minute and said $1000 I said no way He talked to the black roofer He holered over the roof and said Chris was giving me a good deal I said I would pay no more than $500 and they said no my partner went up took the 3 old ones off I built 3 2x4 boxes he screwed them down less than 1 hour Very foolish on there part from an interlock perspective I have photographs but not sure how too attach
They could have another color. It is super nice and they had a lot of choices, but maybe offer a brown or european brick, which is a lighter red. Mine is darker red. Before, I had a brownish gray color and everything flashed down when it rained. Now my house looks like a castle. It is really super and I just love it. Great job.
Bob had said a crew would stay in the area to do the job efficiently, but instead the project took 19 days, (inc the day the materials were dropped off). There were a lot of rain days, which certainly complicated things, but there were only 2 days (inc. the last day) that what could be described as a crew was here. For the most part, Jeremy worked alone or with 1 other, or 2 others at the most. Jeremy did an excellent, professional, job and was courteous as well as pleasant under all circumstances, but the job seemed endless (probably to him, too.) It seemed that sometimes Jeremy was expecting someone who didn't show up.I'm not sure if he was a sub contractor or an employee of Interlock. I had assumed the latter and thought Interlock would have made more of a point to finish the job in timely fashion if we'd been in a more urban area where the project was more visible. My neighbours were very patient. At the beginning, my written complaint about lack of communication was addressed and for the most part rectified.
None - service was great. We still have your sign on our lawn. Would you like to pick it up to reuse it somewhere else? If not, do you want us to throw it out? Thank you.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Delhi
The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Delhi, Ontario. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Delhi.
How does a metal roof handle Delhi's heavy snow load and freeze-thaw cycles?
Aluminum's smooth, slippery surface sheds snow and ice more readily than asphalt, reducing ice dam formation during Delhi's ~82 annual freeze-thaw days. The four-way interlocking panels are warranted to resist wind gusts up to 120 mph, so seasonal snow pressures and shifting loads pose no structural risk. With about 90 cm of snow typical each winter, the metal's light weight—roughly 0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile—means your roof carries the load without requiring structural reinforcement, even when snow accumulates.
Will freeze-thaw cycles in Ontario damage an aluminum roof over time?
No. Aluminum's oxide layer self-heals when scratched, and the material itself contains no iron, so it cannot rust—freeze-thaw damage is not a concern. With 82 freeze-thaw days annually in Delhi and 842 mm of rain, aluminum remains chemically inert through repeated moisture exposure and temperature swings. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating on both panel sides is rated 30 years against fading and chalking, so it maintains integrity through decades of Ontario's wet, cold winters.
Why is aluminum better than steel roofing in a climate like Delhi's?
Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; steel will always corrode when exposed to water and freeze-thaw cycles. In Delhi's ~842 mm annual rainfall and 90 cm snow, steel panels would require ongoing maintenance to prevent rust bloom and panel failure. Aluminum roofing-grade 3105-H24 alloy naturally forms a self-healing oxide barrier. The Alunar fluorocarbon finish applied to both sides adds 30 years of warranty protection. Once installed, aluminum needs no rust treatment or replacement—it simply endures.
Can a metal roof withstand Delhi's winter and spring wind gusts?
Yes. The four-way interlocking panel system is warranted to resist winds up to 120 mph (193 km/h), far exceeding Delhi's typical gusts around 21 km/h or even extreme gusts near 108 km/h. The interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors on four sides, distributing wind load across the entire roof surface rather than stressing individual fasteners. This proven engineering (verified under ICC-ES ESR-1790) means seasonal Ontario storms pose no threat to panel integrity or attachment.
Does a metal roof get damaged by hail, and can I save on insurance?
Interlock metal roofing achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available—and is warranted against perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Unlike asphalt shingles that dent and leak under hail, aluminum's hardness and the interlocking panel design distribute impact energy. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts; contact your provider with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and 120 mph wind warranty to discuss potential savings on your policy.
Will an energy-efficient metal roof lower my cooling costs in Ontario?
energy-efficient color options reflect solar heat rather than absorbing it as asphalt does, lowering cooling costs year-round. Aged Copper Penny and other cool-rated profiles achieve initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 and thermal emissivity of 0.84, meaning they send heat back to the sky rather than into your attic. Over Delhi's ~3022 annual sunshine hours, this reflectance compounds—less heat indoors means lower air-conditioning runtime and utility bills, especially on hot summer days.
How much upkeep does a metal roof really need compared to asphalt or tile?
Aluminum roofing requires virtually no maintenance. Asphalt shingles need regular inspection, algae treatment, and eventual replacement; wood shakes rot and split; concrete or clay tile cracks. Aluminum cannot rot, rust, or crack. Rain and snow naturally clean the Alunar-coated surface. Occasional debris clearing suffices. The CALGreen-verified reduced-maintenance profile means you avoid costly repairs and inspections that consume time and money—your roof simply lasts and protects without demanding attention through Delhi's wet winters and variable seasons.
Do I need to reinforce my home's structure to install a metal roof over an existing one?
No structural reinforcement is needed. The Mediterranean Tile profile weighs just 0.59 lb/sq ft—approximately 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile—while the Slate and Shingle profiles are even lighter at 0.41 and 0.58 lb/sq ft respectively. This weight advantage means the roof system installs directly over most existing shingles without adding load. Older homes and structures that could never support traditional tile can now have the authentic tile appearance and durability of metal. Installation is faster and your home's framing stays unchanged.
How long does it take to install a metal roof in Delhi, and can you install it over my existing roof?
Yes, Interlock metal roofing installs over existing asphalt or wood shingles, eliminating costly tear-off and landfill disposal. Because each aluminum panel is lightweight—0.41 to 0.59 lb/sq ft—and the four-way interlocking system creates a weathertight seal during installation, most residential roofs complete within 3 to 5 business days. The local team at Interlock Metal Roofing (Ontario) Ltd. has served the Niagara Peninsula since 1998 and can provide an exact timeline based on your home's size, pitch, and current condition.
What's the real lifespan of a metal roof, and what does the warranty actually cover?
The Guardian lifetime limited warranty is non-prorated for the original homeowner and covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and impact resistance loss—threats that plague asphalt and tile over 20 to 30 years. The warranty transfers once (50 years from completion) to the next owner, adding significant resale appeal. Aluminum's chemistry ensures no rust or rot can occur; the 30-year Alunar coating protects against fading. In climates with 82 freeze-thaw days and 842 mm rain annually like Delhi, this non-prorated guarantee reflects the material's proven durability since 1998.
Is a metal roof a good choice for Delhi’s climate?
Yes. Delhi averages about 90 cm of snow, 842 mm of rain, roughly 82 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 108 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
