To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Review: January 28, 2016Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: July 30, 2006Completion: June 27, 2006

Well, the roof is on and I guess I owe you, folks, a testimonial. It looks great! We chose a black slate style shingle which accentuates our mansard roof very nicely with crisp, clean lines. We are getting lots of compliments from our neighbors. The best part is knowing that our roof will continue to look great for many, many years – long after conventional asphalt shingles would be cracking, curling, fading, streaking and collecting mold and mildew. The crew was first rate – very professional and efficient. It was fun to watch them work. Every single man seemed to know exactly what to do at all times. The process looked like a choreographed event. They were thorough and cleaned up after themselves at every step and, unlike some roofing jobs I’ve seen, they always immediately replaced what they tore out so that the house was never exposed to weather when they left the job at the end of the day. Finally, we really appreciated the “good faith” method of doing business with Interlock. We didn’t pay a dime up front or during the roofing process. Only after we had made a final inspection and approved the job were we asked for payment. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Interlock roofing to anyone replacing a roof or building a new house.

Our new roof looks fabulous! We’re optimistic that we’ll be equally as pleased with its performance. The installers were professional, safety conscious, and courtesy to our dog. We appreciate how understanding they were of our dog needing a little time in his yard when they were working in that side of the house.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Hackensack

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Hackensack, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Hackensack.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's snow load and ice dams?

Interlock panels shed snow and ice effectively because aluminum's smooth, sloped surface resists ice adhesion far better than asphalt. With Hackensack averaging about 106 cm of snow yearly and roughly 75 freeze-thaw cycles per year, that matters: each thaw-freeze cycle can trap water under asphalt shingles, but metal's thermal conductivity and low-friction surface encourage natural drainage. The four-way interlocking design also lets you add snow guards if you want to manage roof runoff in specific spots without the panels themselves failing. Unlike asphalt, which degrades faster in freeze-thaw stress, aluminum doesn't crack or curl from repeated temperature swings.

Why won't an aluminum roof rust like steel roofing does?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron—the element that oxidizes and corrodes. Instead, aluminum develops a self-healing oxide layer when exposed to air; if that layer is scratched, it reforms automatically. Interlock panels use roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209) with a Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon coating applied to both sides, warranted 30 years against fading and chalking. In Hackensack's climate with about 541 mm annual rainfall and occasional wind gusts to 93 km/h, this two-sided coating and rust-proof base mean you're not fighting corrosion year after year. Steel roofs require regular maintenance to prevent rust; aluminum simply doesn't have that vulnerability.

Does freeze-thaw cycling damage metal roofing in Minnesota winters?

No—aluminum actually thrives through freeze-thaw cycles because it expands and contracts uniformly without cracking, splintering, or losing integrity. Hackensack experiences about 75 freeze-thaw days annually, which would stress asphalt shingles and wood shake over time, but aluminum's crystalline structure and the four-way interlocking panel design allow thermal movement without damage. The coating—Alunar 70% PVDF applied to both panel surfaces—remains flexible through temperature swings and is warranted for 30 years against chalking and fading. By contrast, asphalt becomes brittle in cold, and traditional wood shake splits and curls. Aluminum's homogeneous material simply doesn't suffer the micro-fractures that freeze-thaw inflicts on other roofing.

Can a metal roof withstand hail, and will it lower my insurance?

Yes—Interlock metal roofing carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest available, and the Guardian warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. That durability often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because aluminum panels resist damage that would dent or puncture asphalt or slate. Contact your insurer directly with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and ESR-1790 (ICC-ES) evaluation report to explore premium reductions. In Hackensack, with about 3,075 sunshine hours annually and typical gusts around 19 km/h, hail risk is real but infrequent; when it does occur, a metal roof's impact resistance means fewer claims and less out-of-pocket repair than traditional materials.

Will a metal tile roof need structural reinforcement on an older home?

No—Interlock Tile profile installs at about 0.59 lb/sq ft and is roughly 96% lighter than concrete or clay tile, so no structural reinforcement is required. Most homes, even older ones, can support this weight without modification. The panels install directly over your existing roof in many cases, which saves tear-off labor and cost. For context, traditional tile weighs roughly 15–20 lb/sq ft; Interlock's aluminum version carries almost no structural burden. Hackensack's climate—with about 106 cm of annual snow and gusts reaching 93 km/h—won't stress a lightweight aluminum system. This is one of metal roofing's biggest practical advantages for homeowners: you get the look of tile durability without the engineering work.

How does a metal roof perform in Minnesota wind and storms?

Interlock panels are warranted to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, well above Hackensack's typical gust peaks of about 93 km/h (58 mph). The four-way interlocking design locks each panel to its neighbors, so wind pressure doesn't peel or lift edges the way it can with shingles. The panels' low profile and lightweight construction mean they flex slightly in strong gusts rather than catching wind like a sail. Hackensack's average daily-max winds run about 19 km/h, so extreme wind is uncommon, but when seasonal storms do arrive, an interlocked metal roof will hold firm. This mechanical locking is why metal roofs outperform asphalt in wind events—there's simply no way to separate the panels once they're installed.

What is the lifetime warranty, and does it transfer if I sell?

The Guardian Warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance for as long as you own the home. If you sell, the warranty transfers one time to the next owner for 50 years from completion. This is extraordinarily rare in roofing: most asphalt warranties are 20–30 years and fully prorated after year 10. A transferable 50-year term adds real value to your home's sale because the buyer inherits decades of protection. In Hackensack's freeze-thaw-heavy climate with 75 annual cycles, that lifetime coverage against splitting and cracking is genuine peace of mind. You're not replacing this roof in your lifetime; you're handing it to the next owner in excellent condition.

How much maintenance does a metal roof actually need?

Virtually none beyond occasional debris clearing. Unlike asphalt shingles (which degrade from UV and thermal cycling), wood shake (which splits and needs sealing), or clay tile (which requires re-grouting), aluminum panels don't crack, curl, rot, or require protective coatings. The Alunar 70% PVDF finish is self-protecting and warranted 30 years against chalking and fading—no repainting or resealing required. Hackensack's about 541 mm annual rainfall naturally rinses dust and pollen; the sloped surface and smooth aluminum encourage runoff. A quick spring walk to clear leaves from gutters and valleys is all you do. Over a 50-year lifespan, that maintenance gap between metal and asphalt or shake compounds into thousands of dollars saved. CALGreen-verified means the material meets reduced-maintenance standards.

Do reflective metal roofs actually cut cooling costs in summer?

Yes—energy-efficient Interlock colors achieve up to 0.55 initial solar reflectance (Aged Copper Penny) and 0.84 thermal emissivity, meaning they bounce sunlight back rather than absorbing it like asphalt shingles do. In Hackensack's about 3,075 annual sunshine hours, that reflectance prevents unnecessary heat gain on warm summer days. Attic temperatures stay lower, reducing air-conditioning runtime and utility bills. The difference compounds in multi-story homes and those with limited attic ventilation. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, are dark and absorb solar energy, warming your attic even on mild days. The reflective advantage is modest in Minnesota's cooler climate compared to the South, but over decades it adds up—and you're also reducing peak demand on the grid during summer highs.

Can I install a new metal roof over my existing shingles?

Yes—because Interlock panels weigh only 0.41–0.59 lb/sq ft depending on profile (Slate through Tile), they install over most existing asphalt roofs without tearing off, saving labor and landfill waste. A solid deck and underlayment are required for proper support and sound dampening; if your current roof sags or is severely compromised, the installer will address that first. Interlock has been manufactured in Delta, BC since 1998 and installed by local contractors including Interlock Metal Roofing, serving the region since 2001. The installation timeline is typically faster than a full tear-off-and-replace, and you avoid weeks of exposed framing. Your local installer can assess whether your roof structure and slope suit an overlay, but in most Hackensack homes, this over-install option is both feasible and cost-effective.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Hackensack’s climate?

Yes. Hackensack averages about 106 cm of snow, 541 mm of rain, roughly 75 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 93 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
