To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Review: January 28, 2016Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: July 30, 2006Completion: June 27, 2006

Well, the roof is on and I guess I owe you, folks, a testimonial. It looks great! We chose a black slate style shingle which accentuates our mansard roof very nicely with crisp, clean lines. We are getting lots of compliments from our neighbors. The best part is knowing that our roof will continue to look great for many, many years – long after conventional asphalt shingles would be cracking, curling, fading, streaking and collecting mold and mildew. The crew was first rate – very professional and efficient. It was fun to watch them work. Every single man seemed to know exactly what to do at all times. The process looked like a choreographed event. They were thorough and cleaned up after themselves at every step and, unlike some roofing jobs I’ve seen, they always immediately replaced what they tore out so that the house was never exposed to weather when they left the job at the end of the day. Finally, we really appreciated the “good faith” method of doing business with Interlock. We didn’t pay a dime up front or during the roofing process. Only after we had made a final inspection and approved the job were we asked for payment. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Interlock roofing to anyone replacing a roof or building a new house.

Our new roof looks fabulous! We’re optimistic that we’ll be equally as pleased with its performance. The installers were professional, safety conscious, and courtesy to our dog. We appreciate how understanding they were of our dog needing a little time in his yard when they were working in that side of the house.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Elysian

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Elysian, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Elysian.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota snow and ice buildup?

Metal roofing sheds snow and ice far better than asphalt because the smooth, hard surface offers no grip — snow slides off instead of collecting. Elysian gets about 94 cm of snow yearly across roughly 76 freeze-thaw days, which means constant expansion and contraction that breaks down asphalt shingles. Interlock's four-way interlocking aluminum panels stay dimensionally stable through those cycles; the panels won't curl, crack, or lose granules. You can add snow guards if you want to control where snow exits, but the roof itself won't degrade from the load or the thaw-refreeze pattern that wears out traditional materials.

Will freeze-thaw cycling damage an aluminum metal roof?

No — aluminum's crystal structure simply doesn't fail under freeze-thaw stress the way asphalt, wood, and concrete do. Elysian experiences about 76 freeze-thaw days per year with mean temperatures around 8.3°C, so your roof cycles between wet and frozen constantly. Asphalt becomes brittle and cracks; wood swells and splits; slate and tile crack at the edges. Interlock aluminum has no moisture absorption and zero internal stress points from freezing water. The Alunar 70% PVDF coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading, which means it stays flexible and protective through every thaw.

Can aluminum roofing rust like steel roofing?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron — rust only forms on iron-based metals. Instead, aluminum forms a microscopic oxide layer that actually protects the metal underneath and self-heals when scratched. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), the same material specification used from coastal salt-air homes to an Antarctic research station. Elysian's 860 mm of annual rain and freeze-thaw cycling accelerate corrosion in steel, but aluminum is immune. The Alunar fluorocarbon finish on both sides of every panel adds an extra 30-year warranty against coating failure, giving you two layers of protection.

Do I need to reinforce my house frame for a metal roof?

No structural reinforcement is needed. Interlock's Slate profile installs at 0.41 lb/sq ft — so light you can walk on it without concern. The Mediterranean Tile, despite looking like heavy clay or concrete tile, weighs only 0.59 lb/sq ft and is about 96% lighter than the real thing. Most existing roofs can handle the installation directly over asphalt or wood shingles without any framing upgrades. This matters in Elysian where 94 cm of snow can already load your structure; you're adding a permanent roof that's lighter than what's there now, not heavier.

Will a metal roof blow off in Minnesota wind gusts?

Interlock metal roofing is warranted to resist sustained wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification. Elysian's typical gusts reach about 96 km/h (60 mph), well below that threshold. The four-way interlocking aluminum panels lock together on all edges — each panel mechanically interlocks with its neighbors, so wind can't slip under and lift the roof. The system distributes wind load across the entire assembly rather than stressing individual fasteners. Properly installed, your metal roof will outlast many wind events that damage asphalt shingles in the area.

Does metal roofing qualify for hail insurance discounts?

Interlock metal roofing holds a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating — the highest classification available for hail and falling-object resistance. The warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Class 4 rating often qualifies homeowners for insurance discounts because metal roofs dramatically reduce hail claims. Elysian's climate doesn't feature extreme hail frequency, but when spring and summer storms do arrive, your roof won't dimple, dent, or perforate the way asphalt shingles do. Contact your insurance agent with the impact rating and your policy details — many carriers reduce premiums for Class 4 roofing.

Can a metal roof lower my cooling costs in summer?

Yes, if you choose an energy-efficient color. Interlock offers several colors with cool-roof coatings: initial solar reflectance up to 0.55 (Aged Copper Penny) and thermal emissivity of 0.84, rated by the Cool Roof Rating Council. These colors reflect the heat that asphalt absorbs and re-radiates into your attic. Elysian averages about 3175 sunshine hours yearly, so summer reflection adds up across months. Lighter colors reduce attic temperature swings, lowering air-conditioning load even in a climate that's not extreme heat. You get energy savings without sacrificing the looks you want — slate, cedar, shake, tile, and standing seam all come in energy-efficiency options.

How much maintenance does a metal roof really need?

Aluminum metal roofing requires almost no maintenance. You won't clear moss, replace missing shingles, or watch granules disappear into gutters the way asphalt requires. Interlock panels don't rot, split, curl, or crack — the coating is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading. In Elysian's 860 mm rain and 76 freeze-thaw cycles annually, an asphalt roof is actively degrading while your metal roof is sitting idle. Gutters and downspouts perform their normal function, but the roof itself simply sheds water and snow without seasonal attention. The simplicity of that is what makes aluminum so cost-effective over 50 years.

What's the real lifespan of Interlock metal roofing in Minnesota?

Interlock is backed by The Guardian, a lifetime limited non-prorated material warranty for the original owner — covering rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. Because aluminum cannot rust and doesn't degrade under freeze-thaw cycling, the roof outlasts the warranty period in most climates. The warranty is transferable once, giving the next owner 50 years from completion date. In Elysian, where 94 cm of snow and 76 annual freeze-thaw days destroy asphalt in 15-20 years, you're buying the last roof — not a 25-year interim measure. Homeowners report 40-50+ years of service; the aluminum itself is essentially permanent.

Is metal roofing better for the environment than asphalt?

Yes — aluminum is roughly 95% recyclable, and Interlock panels are manufactured from recycled aluminum whenever possible. When your roof eventually reaches end-of-life (which may not happen in your ownership), the panels go to a recycler, not a landfill. Asphalt shingles, by contrast, create millions of tons of landfill waste annually; the tear-off-and-haul cycle repeats every 15-20 years. Over 50 years in Elysian's climate, you'd replace an asphalt roof 2-3 times, each time paying for disposal. One Interlock installation stops that cycle. The manufacturing is done in Delta, BC, and the lightweight panels reduce fuel consumption during transport — lower carbon footprint than heavier tile or concrete alternatives.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Elysian’s climate?

Yes. Elysian averages about 94 cm of snow, 860 mm of rain, roughly 76 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 96 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
