To: Peter Brylinke My Interlock Shake style system was installed in June of 2019. We have now had it for an entire year and experienced the roof through all season, climate and weather conditions. Not only do we value the new look of our roof but the performance of the new roof has been exceptional. In the winter we have seen the snow pile up on it only to slide off as soon as the sun warms it enough. We have noticed a difference in the summers also with a cooler house. The roof has met all of our expectations and we are extremely happy with our decision to install this roof. Last summer when the workers were working on the roof, we were so pleased with the time and effort the workmen put into making sure all aspects of our roof were taken care of. They were courteous, hard working, respectful and considerate of our needs as homeowners. Carlos was instrumental in making sure that we were happy with every aspect of the work that was being done. In closing, we are very impressed with our roof and have recommended this same system to many people we know and many people who just " data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">walk by and ask about it. We feel that we have made a great decision in putting this system on our home. ">" alt="Minneapolis MN 55409 Interlock Roof" width="2560" height="1920" />

Hi Peter, we wanted to convey to you how much we love our new Interlock roof! Several of our neighbors and friends have said they do, too! We love the look of it, and are so impressed with how beautifully finished it is integrated into the flashing materials. The Interlock scheduling staff was great to work with, and we are so happy with Jessie and his Interlock installation team. They are true craftsmen, and part artists! We loved how they treated our home with respect, and were always willing to address any questions we had. We watched as they worked on items until they had them just right; when we asked about some areas of concern multiple members of the installation team converged on the item and came down to explain and even illustrate with photographs how it was addressed. Again, we couldn't be happier and are enjoying our Interlock roof!

Review: November 4, 2016Completion: September 30, 2015

Dear Peter, I had Interlock Roofing install my black slate roof in the fall one year ago, and I couldn’t be happier! My roof still looks like new, and really stands out in my neighborhood. My old asphalt shingle roof was leaking. I had to shovel it every time it snowed because of " title="ice dams" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">ice dams in my older 1950’s house. I have had no issues at all with my new Interlock roof. It was so nice only to have to shovel my driveway this winter and not worry about snow on the roof. It all just slid off in only a few days after each snowfall. Also, the team that you had out to install my roof was exceptional. I was very impressed with the quality of the team that installed my roof. They were all very polite and worked well together as a team. They worked very hard, and got the job done, and completed in less than three days. I’ve never had to have anyone come back to fix or touch anything up. Thank you for the great job the Interlock team did to replace my roof. I would recommend Interlock to anyone needing a new roof without hesitation!

Dear Peter, I Wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my new Interlock roof. It looks terrific, and I am anticipating that I will never have to roof rake my roof again now that your product has been installed. My house is small, a 3-bedroom rambler, but the visual impact the Interlock roof has added makes it look like a castle! All of the contact I have had with your personnel, from yourself to the lead foreman on the job and the men doing the install was pleasant and professional. The cleanup after the job was done was great and it only took 1-1/2 days for a complete tear-off to complete the installation. Please use this letter as a personal recommendation for your company and your product.

Review: January 28, 2016Completion: December 28, 2015

My Interlock ">Shake Style Roof in Aged Copper color was installed between December 21st and December 31st. Snow has covered most of the house and garage since it was installed, so I haven’t been able to enjoy the new look yet, but during the installation and before the snow it was obvious it I going to look great. I am glad I had them put Interlock ">Shakes on my 8ft x 16ft hip-roofed storage shed as well. There are a lot of huge oak trees close to my house and they had caused the heavy cedar hand-split shakes to deteriorate from moss growing on them. I knew I needed a roof that would not have this problem in the future. I am a retired mechanical engineer and had built the house and garage myself. I studied the specs on steel, stone coated steel and several aluminum style shakes, before finally settling on the Interlock product. I believe it will prove to be a good choice. I was very impressed with the quality and design of all the types of flashings, ridge vent, and fasteners that were expertly installed. I truly expect this roof to last and look great for generations. I was also very impressed with the crew who did the work under Juan and Carlos’ direction. They worked tirelessly in some difficult weather conditions and short daylight hours. A number of minor changes were made on the fly with gutters, snow guards and roof penetrations and they were all executed precisely. They were very careful in making sure the roofs were protected overnight, on weekends and during the Christmas holiday. They did a great job of cleaning up the difficult mess made removing the decayed shakes. I guess I won’t know for sure if there are any problems until we get some heavy rains in the spring and summer, but as of now, I would be happy to show the roof and talk to any prospective clients that are considering the Interlock product.

Review: July 30, 2006Completion: June 27, 2006

Well, the roof is on and I guess I owe you, folks, a testimonial. It looks great! We chose a black slate style shingle which accentuates our mansard roof very nicely with crisp, clean lines. We are getting lots of compliments from our neighbors. The best part is knowing that our roof will continue to look great for many, many years – long after conventional asphalt shingles would be cracking, curling, fading, streaking and collecting mold and mildew. The crew was first rate – very professional and efficient. It was fun to watch them work. Every single man seemed to know exactly what to do at all times. The process looked like a choreographed event. They were thorough and cleaned up after themselves at every step and, unlike some roofing jobs I’ve seen, they always immediately replaced what they tore out so that the house was never exposed to weather when they left the job at the end of the day. Finally, we really appreciated the “good faith” method of doing business with Interlock. We didn’t pay a dime up front or during the roofing process. Only after we had made a final inspection and approved the job were we asked for payment. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Interlock roofing to anyone replacing a roof or building a new house.

Our new roof looks fabulous! We’re optimistic that we’ll be equally as pleased with its performance. The installers were professional, safety conscious, and courtesy to our dog. We appreciate how understanding they were of our dog needing a little time in his yard when they were working in that side of the house.

Metal Roofing FAQs for Homeowners in Washington Township

The following metal roofing FAQs are designed specifically for homeowners in Washington Township, Minnesota. Whether you are building a new home or replacing an existing roof, understanding how roofing materials perform in local weather conditions is essential. From wind and storm protection to fire resistance, hail impact, snow loads, and coastal moisture exposure, Interlock’s Lifetime Aluminum Roofing System is engineered to provide long-term durability, energy efficiency, and peace of mind in Washington Township.

How does a metal roof handle Minnesota's heavy snow and freeze-thaw cycles?

Aluminum's smooth, hard surface sheds snow and ice far more effectively than asphalt, which traps moisture and promotes ice dams. Washington Township receives about 91 cm of snow annually across roughly 77 freeze-thaw days per year—conditions that cause asphalt to degrade rapidly through repeated expansion and contraction. Interlock's aluminum panels expand and contract uniformly without cracking, splitting, or curling. The four-way interlocking seams prevent water infiltration even when snow melts and refreezes. You can add snow guards if you prefer retained snow for insulation value, but the roof itself won't suffer structural damage or accelerated aging from the cycle.

Why choose aluminum roofing instead of steel—doesn't metal rust?

Aluminum cannot rust because it contains no iron; steel does, which is why steel roofs eventually corrode and fail. Interlock uses roofing-grade 3105-H24 and 3003-H24 aluminum alloy (ASTM B209), coated on both sides with Alunar 70% PVDF fluorocarbon finish. Even if the coating scratches, aluminum's oxide layer self-heals. This two-sided protection matters in Le Sueur County's 857 mm of annual rainfall—water that would accelerate rust on steel simply runs off aluminum. The Guardian warranty covers rusting for your lifetime, then transfers to the next owner for 50 years. Steel roofs can't make that promise.

Do I need to reinforce my roof framing to support a metal roof?

No reinforcement needed. Interlock's Slate profile installs at just 0.41 lb/sq ft, and the Mediterranean Tile—despite its authentic tile look—weighs about 96% less than actual clay or concrete tile. Your existing framing can handle it. This lightweight advantage means Interlock often installs directly over your current asphalt shingles without decking replacement, saving you money and keeping your home closed during installation. Washington Township's typical wind gusts reach 100 km/h; the light weight combined with four-way interlocking panels and the 120 mph wind warranty means the roof stays secure even in severe weather without costly structural work.

Will a metal roof blow off in a storm?

Four-way interlocking panels are engineered to move together as a unified system. Each panel locks to its neighbors on all four sides, distributing wind loads across the entire roof rather than concentrating stress on fasteners. Interlock warrants the system to resist wind speeds up to 120 mph when installed to specification, and achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest available. In Washington Township, where gusts regularly approach 100 km/h, this design far exceeds your typical storm exposure. The interlocking geometry also prevents uplift from beneath during wind events that would lift and tear asphalt shingles. Installation quality matters; your local Interlock installer has served the region since 2001.

Does hail damage a metal roof, and will my insurance premium drop?

Interlock achieves UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating—the highest classification—and the warranty even covers perforation from hailstones up to 1.5 inches. Aluminum's hardness and the panel profile's geometry distribute impact energy rather than allowing dents to pool water or crack. Many insurers recognize this durability and offer premium discounts for metal roofs, though your specific savings depend on your carrier and local loss history. Because the roof lasts 50+ years and avoids the claim frequency of asphalt (which often sustains hidden hail damage), insurers view metal roofs as lower risk. Contact your agent with the UL 2218 Class 4 rating and warranty details when renewing your policy.

How long will the roof last, and what does the warranty actually cover?

The Guardian warranty is a lifetime limited, non-prorated material warranty for the original owner—meaning you never pay a depreciated amount for a covered claim. It covers rusting, rotting, splitting, cracking, curling, and loss of impact resistance. The warranty transfers once to the next owner, who receives 50 years of coverage from completion. The Alunar coating itself is warranted 30 years against chalking and fading (ASTM D4214 / D2244 measured). Aluminum's inherent durability—no wood to rot, no steel to rust, no asphalt to break down under 77 annual freeze-thaw cycles in Washington Township—means the roof typically outlasts the warranty period. This is your last roof.

How much maintenance does a metal roof need compared to asphalt or tile?

Interlock requires virtually no maintenance—no algae treatments, no wood sealer reapplication, no tile mortar repointing. Occasional gutter cleaning and debris removal (leaves, twigs) are the only regular tasks, the same as with asphalt. The smooth aluminum surface resists moss and algae growth far better than asphalt's porous surface, which traps moisture and organic growth. CALGreen verification confirms the reduced maintenance profile. Tile requires periodic regrouting and re-sealing; cedar shake demands regular staining and sealing to prevent rot. Asphalt attracts algae in humid climates and breaks down under Washington Township's 857 mm annual rainfall. Metal's coating lasts 30 years with zero active maintenance—you simply enjoy the roof while it protects your home.

How long does metal roof installation take, and can you install it over my existing shingles?

Installation typically takes 2–4 days for a standard residential roof, depending on roof size and complexity. Yes, Interlock installs directly over existing asphalt shingles in most cases—no tear-off required, which keeps your home closed and saves disposal costs. The lightweight design (Slate at 0.41 lb/sq ft) means no structural concerns and minimal stress on your home's framing during installation. Your local installer has been serving Le Sueur County since 2001 and understands Washington Township's building codes and site conditions. The ICC-ES ESR-1790 evaluation (reissued 2025) confirms code compliance for installation over existing roof assemblies, so you're also protected by design verification.

Is aluminum roofing actually better for the environment than asphalt shingles?

Aluminum is about 95% recyclable at end of life; asphalt shingles are not. Interlock's manufacturing in Delta, BC, and its multi-decade lifespan mean far fewer roofs sent to landfills over the same 50-100 year period. Asphalt shingles, replaced every 15–20 years, create millions of tons of landfill waste annually. In Washington Township, where you receive 857 mm of rain and 91 cm of snow yearly, asphalt typically needs replacement sooner due to moisture damage and freeze-thaw cycling. Aluminum's durability breaks that tear-off-and-replace cycle entirely. When Interlock eventually reaches end of life, the aluminum enters the scrap market as a valuable commodity, not waste. The panels have been installed from coastal salt-air environments to Antarctica—they're engineered to outlast their surroundings, not to fail on schedule.

What roofing styles does Interlock offer to match my home's design?

Interlock manufactures five profiles: Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake, Standing Seam, and Mediterranean Tile. Each replicates the traditional look while delivering aluminum's durability, light weight, and near-zero maintenance. Slate suits colonial and modern homes; Cedar Shingle and Shake work for Cape Cod, craftsman, and rustic styles; Mediterranean Tile complements Southwest, Spanish Colonial, and Mediterranean Revival architecture; Standing Seam offers a contemporary industrial aesthetic. All five profiles are available in your Washington Township service area and meet the same ICC-ES ESR-1790 code approval, UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, and Guardian warranty. Your local Interlock installer can show samples and discuss which profile complements your home's character and neighborhood.

Is a metal roof a good choice for Washington Township’s climate?

Yes. Washington Township averages about 91 cm of snow, 857 mm of rain, roughly 77 freeze–thaw days a year, with peak wind gusts near 100 km/h. Interlock® aluminum roofing is wind-rated to 193+ km/h (120 mph), UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated and Class A fire-rated, and its four-way interlocking panels shed snow and resist ice dams and freeze–thaw cracking — all backed by a lifetime limited, transferable warranty.
